CBSE Class 12 Physics Sample Practice Paper for SA1

CBSE Class 12 PHYSICS QUESTION PAPER (Practice Paper) for SA1

SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT 1 (Physics Mock Test)
Time: 3 hrs
Max Marks: 70
GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
a)     All questions are compulsory.
b)     There are 30 questions in total. Questions 1 to 8 carry one mark each, questions 9 to 18 carry two marks each, questions 19 to 27 carry three marks each and questions 28 to 30 carry five marks each.
c)     There is no overall choice. However, an internal choice has been provided in one question of two marks, one question of three marks and all three questions of five marks each. You have to attempt only one of the given choices in such questions.
d)     Use of calculators is not permitted.
e)     You may use the following physical constants wherever necessary:
Question 1. Why should the material used for making permanent magnets have high coercivity?
Question 2. What are the values of (a) the horizontal component of earth's magnetic field (b) the angle of dip. at the magnetic north pole of the earth?
Question 3. The power factor of an ac circuit is 0.5. What will be the phase difference between voltage and current in this circuit ?
Question 5. A wire of irregular shape in magnetic field as shown in the diagram turns into a circular shape. Determine the direction of induced current.

Question 8. Draw the graph showing the variation of intensity of magnetization of a paramagnetic sample with temperature.
Question 10. "Lenz's Law is a consequence of the principle of conservation of energy". Justify this statement.
Question 13. What are eddy currents ? How can they be minimized ?
Question 14. A ray of light incident on an equilateral glass prism shows minimum deviation of 300. Calculate the speed of light through glass prism.
Question 16. Define current sensitivity and voltage sensitivity of a galvanometer. Increasing the current sensitivity may not necessarily increase the voltage sensitivity. Justify.
Question 19. The following figures represent three AC circuits with equal currents. If the frequency of emf be increased (without change in emf), then what will be the effect on the current through the circuits ? Explain with reason.
Question 20. Draw a labelled diagram of an AC generator.  Explain briefly its principles working with analytical treatment.
Question 22. Derive an expression for impedance in an AC circuit containing L, C and R in series. Also find an expression for resonant frequency of such a circuit.
Question 26. Draw a ray diagram showing the passage of light through a glass prism.  Hence obtain a relation between the angles of deviation, incidence and emergence and the angle of prism.
Question 28.
(i) Using Biot-Savart's law, deduce an expression for the magnetic field on the axis of a circular current carrying loop.
(ii) Draw the magnetic field lines due to a circular current carrying loop.
Question 30.
(a) What is Capacitive Reactance?
(b) Show graphically the variation of Capacitive Reactance with frequency of the applied alternating voltage.
(c) An alternating voltage E = Eo Sin ωt is applied across a pure capacitor of capacitance C.
