Solution: Chauhans defeated the Tomara Rajput.

Solution:  It was under the Tomara and Chauhan’s rules when Delhi became an important commercial center.

Solution: Coins minted by muqtis of Delhi Sultans are called dehliwal.

Solution: Tawarikh was written in Persian language mostly about the administration of Delhi Sultans. The authors of Tawarikh were learned men such as - secretaries, administrators, poets, and courtiers. They used to recount events and also advised rulers on governance, emphasizing the importance of just rule.

Solution:
Hinterland: Land or area adjacent to a town or port that supply it with goods and other services like trade, transportation etc. are termed as ‘Hinterland’.
Garrison Town: A fortified town with settlements of soldiers.
Muqti, Iqta, Iqtadar: The Khalji and Tughluq rulers appointed military commanders as holders of their various territories. Such territories were called ‘Iqta’ and their holders (military commanders who were granted lands of these territories) were called as ‘Iqtadar’ or ‘Muqti’. Their duties included -
  • To lead military campaigns in order to maintain law and order in their iqtas.
  • In exchange they had to collect fixed revenues from the people living in their territories.
  • From the revenue collected, muqtis had to pay his soldiers, take his own salary and give the remaining to the Sultanate.
Qibla: The position of a person’s standing facing Mecca while offering Namaz (prayer) is called ‘Qibla’.

Question 7: Name the first and the only woman Muslim ruler? Mention the duration of her rule.
Solution: Razia Sultan of Delhi Sultanate was the first and the only Muslim woman ruler of India. She reigned from 1236 to 1240. Iltutmish appointed his daughter, Razia as his successor.

Question 8: Name the three types of taxes collected by the Delhi Sultans. Or
How many types of taxes were collected by the Delhi Sultans?
Solution: The three main types of taxes collected by the Delhi Sultans were -
  1. ‘Kharaj’ or taxes on cultivation which amounted to 50% of the peasant’s produce,
  2. Taxes on cattle, and
  3. Taxes on houses.

Question 9: Which of the Delhi Sultans was popularly known as ‘Lakh Baksh’?
Solution: Qutb-ud-din Aibak was popularly known as ‘Lakh Baksh’ means, ‘Giver of Lakhs’ for his generosity.
